Year 6 End of Year Production
If this is your first encounter with Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, then ready yourself for a story of ambition, power … and murder!
First performed over 400 years ago, Shakespeare’s famous tragedy still captures the imagination of audiences across the world and is studied by children at Blair Peach when they are in Year 5.
In the play, a brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.
There are two acts in our version of the play. To support your understanding, each act will be introduced by two comperes and a pair of narrators will also provide commentary in each scene. Be sure to listen carefully and we will do our best to bring Shakespeare’s writing alive … while many characters in the play meet their untimely deaths!
